“I often wondered if my small Christian school education had me prepared for college, and then law school. I quickly learned that I was as well prepared, if not better prepared, than my college classmates for the rigors of college writing and classwork.” This is Scott Gwartney’s response when asked about his time at NFC.

After NFC, Scott attended Liberty University. Graduating magna cum laude in 1985 and from the Florida State University College of Law in 1991. His legal career began with a successful practice with acclaimed civil trail attorney, Kenneth L. Connor. Their firm eventually joined the Tampa-based nursing home litigation firm of Wilkes & McHugh and started their Tallahassee office where Mr. Gwartney practiced. He joined his current firm, Brooks, LeBoeuf, Bennet and Foster, in 2002 and one year later became partner.

Recognized in Florida as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers, a Super Lawyer in the top 5%, and a Legal Elite in the top 2%, Scott is passionate about seeking justice for the elderly. He is often called upon to lecture on nursing home litigation around the country. His faith drives his passion for the law and justice, which he credits his time at NFC for fostering. “NFC helped ground me with a personal understanding of the foundations of my faith.” Scott and his wife Cathy Cox Gwartney, a graduate of NFC’s class of 1984, currently reside in Tallahassee where they raised three children.
